I’m not going to buy people any christmas presents. I’m thinking of making cookies or something for them.
would you be disappointed if someone did that?

no- I think the spending has gotten out of control and everyone seems stressed out ! I too have cut way back. We now enjoy the things that the holidays are about – family ,decorating the tree, baking cookies and our kids favorite, a night drive to see all the lights and decorations. Merry Christmas.

i love cookies. make multiple kinds of cookies (chocolate chip, sugar, oatmeal, etc.) and try to distrtibute them according to your friend’s tastes. if someone gave me chocolate chip, i would love it. if someone gave me oatmeal, i would give them away (not to be mean, i just can’t stand oatmeal). the recipe is a great idea, maybe even throw in a cheap, holiday cookie cutter (shape of a mitten or something) along with the recipe. if you give them snowman-shaped cookies, with the recipe, and the cutter that made the cookies, that would be cool.

Cookies and homemade gifts are greatly appreciated. Only shallow people demand expensive gifts.
Homemade gift certificates for things like a back rub, clean your bathroom, make dinner, babysit the kids, etc. are also great inexpensive but thoughtful gifts.

    You don’t.
    You can cancel Christmas unilaterally.
    I shouldn’t be disappointed.

economy, thats why we buy christmas presents

i think that jar thing every one gets those and no one makes the cookies any ways. but i think getting inexpesnive tins and filling them w/ cookies would be good. people are so hard to buy for these days any ways.

I think most people would appreciate a gift that you have made rather than one bought without thought.

  8. Janice Dickinsons' Shrink says:

Not at all. That would be ungrateful. Especially if you have a talent for a certain recipe, then this makes a great gift.

I think making something is the sweetest most thoughtful thing to do. I have always enjoyed gifts like that. I had a coworker that tried her hand at making jewelry (with beads) for all the girls at Christmas. She made me a bracelet and earrings. She was new at it and it’s not something I would have bought for myself but it was PINK! My favorite color. She remembered my favorite color and I thought that was the sweetest thing on Earth. I still have them and yes….I do wear them.

I would like that because you did something like that more than I would if you went out and picked out something like a figurine. I was taught that if you bake something then that means that you are thinking about them because you are taking your time to make something that they are sure to enjoy rather than just going to the department store and getting something that you can put under the tree.

I love food and snacks for Christmas. I do the same thing. Go for quality ingredients and make everything from scratch. Presentation is important to, there’s a million holiday magazines that have good ideas for wrapping up your baked goods in festive packaging.
This year I’m making chocolates, cookies, and homemade chocolate-peppermint marshmallows.
It’s also cool to bake a nice loaf of bread if you’re going somewhere for a meal. People love fresh bread.

no we often do homemade gifts and although there are a few snobs in the bunch everyone generally likes them. we made the cookies in the jar one year great gift. also we made blankets one year and ornaments with a family photo in them another year. i think homemade gifts are way better they are always my fav to get.

  13. Dan in Real Life says:

I think that sounds nice! I won’t say no to Christmas cookies. And there is something special about producing your own gift out of your own hard work rather than paying for someone else’s work.

  14. brianjam says:

No we don’t have to buy Christmas gifts.
I personally have a mixed feelings about gifts. I often I like to give gifts but don’t care much for receiving them. I feel bad when someone spends good money for gift I can’t or won’t use. So your cookies sound great to me, cookies are never refused in my house.
Actually some of my favorite gifts were not bought. A drawing from a niece (now framed), a bottle my sister-in-law fished from the trash (I collect glassware) or an angel a friend of mine made (that comes out every Christmas).
I think your cookies are closer to the real spirit of Christmas than blindly spending money.
    Happy Holidays.

Nope, I’m doing the same thing. My husband and I are only buying a gift for my 6 year old brother, everyone else is getting homemade cookies and chocolate covered pretzels. You can buy really cute tins at the dollar store and just put the recipe on a 3×5 card and stick it in with the cookies and pretzels. I think it’s a great idea!
    Merry Christmas!!

  16. jmatties says:

I like practical gifts, so yes, I’d like cookies.
